My experience at Mythos University

My journey as a master's candidate at Mythos University has been an incredibly enriching exploration of the human experience through the dual lenses of anthropology and music. The interdisciplinary nature of my studies here has allowed me to delve deep into how sound, ritual, and cultural practices intertwine, pushing the boundaries of traditional academic silos. Whether I'm analyzing intricate kinship systems in a seminar or dissecting the ethnographic implications of a forgotten folk melody in the music department, Mythos has provided an unparalleled environment for fostering my unique academic interests. The faculty's expertise and willingness to support unconventional research paths have been instrumental in shaping my understanding and refining my focus within these fascinating fields.

My summer experience

This past summer, I had the invaluable opportunity to conduct preliminary fieldwork for my thesis, focusing on the role of music in community resilience among diaspora populations in a specific urban setting. This involved extensive ethnographic research, including participant observation in local cultural festivals and in-depth interviews with community elders and musicians. My music minor proved indispensable, allowing me to not only appreciate the sonic landscapes but also to understand the technical nuances and cultural significance of the musical traditions I encountered. My future plans

My ultimate goal is to contribute to projects that empower communities to document, celebrate, and sustain their unique musical and cultural traditions. I envision myself working with non-profit organizations, museums, or even international bodies, leveraging my anthropological insights to understand diverse cultural contexts and my musical expertise to advocate for the intrinsic value of artistic expression. I am eager to apply my interdisciplinary training to make a tangible difference in how cultural narratives are understood and shared globally.
